Grit Yoga classes can take on different flavors: some days we do a slow flow (a.k.a. yin-yasa), sometimes we do yin or restorative poses (or nap yoga), and some days we get super geeky about a certain anatomical focus and break it down in a bunch of static poses (yoga lab). What we do depends on who shows up and what is needed.
Regardless of the flavor class takes on, the focus is always on integrity–both physical integrity through alignment as well as integrity as in wholeness of self. My style is slow-paced, personal, safe and participatory. My classes are particularly great for folks tending to injuries or for people who are interested in getting out of their head and into their body more than they are in getting a sweaty workout.
I’m serious about the practice of yoga, but I don’t take myself or yoga too seriously. When you come to class you can expect a friendly atmosphere in which you are given permission to get what you need from your practice. The rest is up to you, and what gets revealed through your intentional presence.
Private Yoga
I maintain that teaching yoga to a room full of people sometimes makes no sense at all because each person has such individual needs and interests. Though there is good medicine of all sorts in practicing in a community, the benefits of one-on-one instruction are profound and often under-valued.
I love working one-on-one with people because it’s where I really get to work magic by using my intuition to draw upon my different professional experiences to create a session that allows you to get exactly what you need.
For example, with some clients the focus of our sessions is physical–either working to rehabilitate after injury or surgery, creating a sequence of poses that you can do on your own to unwind your specific tight spots and bring balance and comfort back to your body, or helping you to get acquainted with your body and with yoga before trying your first class.
Other sessions are more about working through the body with a spiritual or emotional issue that is present for you in your life, and so our time together is a mixture of movement, talking, and sometimes even a bit of bodywork and personal ceremony.
The gist: it’s tailor-made time for you to reclaim all the parts of you through yoga.
The one-on-one session is so much more useful for me than a class. I appreciate your skill, and also your amazing intuition and ability to read the subtle cues of the body and tailor the sessions to whatever is most beneficial to my being at that moment. – Delinda Free, LMT
Corporate Yoga & Special Programs
Corporate or small-group classes or workshops are also available. Got an office full of cool folks who want quality and down-to-earth yoga instruction in the work place? Contact me for a quote on a custom program.
I particularly like working with groups of people who already know each other and who do work that is physically demanding in some way. Check out examples of workshops I’ve done with musicians, massage therapists, servers and artists.
Homebody Yoga
If you’re less interested in attending classes and more interested in creating or enlivening a home practice, I’ve developed a 28-day online course to help you do just that. Check it out here.
