Support for your path as a teacher (& a human being)

What if we find that our present way of life is irreconcilable with our vocation to become more fully human?  ~Paulo Friere

Right. But more specifically: What if we find that our present way of approaching the vocation of teaching yoga is irreconcilable with our vocation to become more fully human?

Because unless you’re showing up in your teaching as the full, fabulous and flawed human being that you are, I don’t think that you can be a truly transformational teacher.

My approach to mentoring marries my experience as a yoga teacher for over a dozen years with masters-level learning in the integral approach to education and counseling. It’s kind of like counseling and kind of like professional supervision in terms of the topics we address, but I call what I do mentoring because it’s rooted in relationship, present moment awareness and embodied knowledge.

(I love how Michael Meade talks about mentoring: “To mentor is to throw away techniques of teaching and counseling and to come with your whole self…it’s not about instruction, it’s about confirming the spirit already there that knows why it’s there.” Yes! That.)

So in a session we’ll address the challenges that you meet at the crossroads of your vocation as a yoga teacher and a human being, including self-doubt, fear, finding your voice, authenticity, presence regardless of emotional experience, finding your purpose and interpersonal and intrapersonal struggles that arise both in and outside of the studio. You know: Life, as applied to being a yoga teacher.

Sometimes we might talk about growing your business, or how to teach specific poses or give adjustments, or classroom mechanics, but the focus is on emotional processing in service to more effectual teaching and more liberated living.

The Nitty Gritty

Who is this for?
This is for new and experienced teachers who see your teaching as a practice and have the desire to know yourself more fully and to be more undefended and real in your life on and off the mat.

Where does this happen?
If you’re in or around Ojai, CA or if I am traveling in your area, I can see you in person. I haven’t figured out how to teleport yet, but Skype is the next best thing. I’ve been using it for years to see clients nationally and internationally, and it works great.

How much does this cost?
$75 for an hour session. You can pay online via paypal or in-person by cash or check.

What do people who have worked with me have to say?

Jay so beautifully embodies what it means to be a transformational educator and so patiently supports me to find this in myself. Our work together has taken me to many places I never expected I’d go, and in our journeys, I’ve gotten my life back. I’ve gotten me.
~Moira McNairney, yoga teacher

My experience working with Jay has been deeply profound and much-needed.  Jay is present, compassionate, and completely authentic, a combination that in her creates an emotional midwife. She has helped in the birth of my true self.
